Discussion
The White Rose mines are located on the Kasten farm, two miles west of Galena. They were operated between 1911 and 1919 and produced principally lead ore. The dump piles contain zinc ore of the brangle type. The deposit worked appears to be along a crevice trending slightly north of east approximately parallel to the MerryWidow-Tenstrike range which is about a quarter of a mile south. The deepest shaft is reported to be 72 feet deep and the ore is a top-run deposit in the upper cherty beds at about the same level as the ore mined along the Merry Widow-Tenstrike range. There is no record of drilling to the Oilrock in the immediate vicinity of the White Rose mines (WILLMAN, H.B., REYNOLDS, R.R., AND HERBERT, PAUL, JR., 1946).
