The upper bench was 4.0 ft thick, with a sandy roof. A middle bench was very bony, and ranged from 2.0 to 7.5 ft thick. The lower bench of the coal was mined. Locally, shale lenses were present, a maximum of 0.25 inches thick. Calcite facings were present, a maximum of 0.5 inches thick. At the time of the visit, only the lower bench was mined, but because the upper benches were described (apparently visible), they had probably been mined at some time.
