Geological Problems Reported
In some places, the Brereton Limestone rested directly on the coal, with no intervening Anna Shale. The Herrin and Springfield Coals both thinned along a closed anticlinal structure. Concretions also were found above the Springfield Coal on the east flank of that structure. Concretions were also found in the Anna Shale above the Herrin Coal. Pods of Energy Shale were also found in erosional features on the Herrin Coal.
