- ↑ Production before 1882 is not known. According to Combined History of Randolph, Monroe and Perry Counties, Illinois, the town of Beaucoup Mines was laid out in 1873 by George W. Wall, president, and William K. Murphy, secretary, of Beaucoup Coal Mining Company. The company was organized in 1870, and the shaft was drilled in 1872. The 1882 Coal Report indicated 25 acres were mined.
