Geological Problems Reported
The lower part of the black shale roof came down. In the coal, rolls came up from the bottom, which made it expensive to mine. Pyrite lenses and stringers were found throughout the coal, as were calcite facings. The floor was a lightly gray clay that only heaved where rooms were mined too wide.
