Notes

  1. The outline on the source map was in a dashed line, indicating uncertainty in the mine outline or extent.
  2. The Coal Reports indicate a new shaft was put into operation in 1890, ½ mile north of the old shaft. J. C. Quade’s field notes show this shaft labeled 1884, which would make this the old shaft. Many of the mines in the ½-mile rangenorth of this shaft are from the 1873 atlas, but mine index 5959 or 5960 may be the 1890 shaft for this mine. However, Quade’s work was done after 1930, 30 to 50 years after these shafts closed, and this data may not be reliable. Mine index 3927, the A Mine is approximately ½ mile south, and may have re-opened after the 1879 bankruptcy. That would make this mine the northern, “new” shaft.
  3. This mine is said to be located north of First Street and east of Center Street, near the Jane Henneberry home. That location places it within the Co-operative Mine, and was likely a predecessor to it.
