Notes
- ↑ The location given is the same as the New Enterprise Mine (mine index 4022); they were probably the same mine, reporting production under the New Enterprise name. Production shown for the New Enterprise Mine indicates 40 to 45 acres were mined (see the back of the directory for additional possible production). The ISGS field notes (dated 1932) also refer to a Britain Coal Company, a shipping mine that operated in the Springfield Coal in 33-T8S-R2E west of the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad. No production was reported in the annual Coal Reports under this name. The ISGS field notes dated 1906 also note a surface mine in the middle of the west half of 4-T9S-R2E operated by E. D. Odeum. The back of this directory shows an Odum mine, but this operated in the 1920s. It seems likely that numerous small producers operated in this area over the years.
