Geology
Geological Problems Reported
Sharp erosional channels filled with sand and gravel, locally called “faults”, apparently halted expansion of this mine in the 1860s. The roof was a black, slightly fissile shale. Above the shale was 2 to 4
feet of limestone.

Notes
- ↑ Smith re-opened a mine that reputedly operated for a few years in the 1860s.
- ↑ Mines producing less than 10,000 tons were not reported in 1921. Production for the earlier mining is not known because production was not reported until 1882.
