Geological Problems Reported

The coal was nearly flat-lying and only dipped a very few degrees to the north and south of the shaft (the shaft being a relatively high spot in the flat seam). Between 2.0 and 2.5 feet of black shale made the roof of the mine, below 16 to 20 feet of clay-rich shale.
