Notes
- ↑ A mine owned by the Buchanan Coal Company was said to be located near the Lower Braidwood School. The school was located on the northeast corner at the intersection of Center and Fifth Streets (SW SW SE 5-T32N R9E). This places the Buchanan mine at approximately the same location as this mine, and it may have worked the same reserves. Production and years of operation are unknown for the Buchanan Coal Company. Another Buchanan Coal Company mine was said to be located near the old James Steen house. The old James Steen house is believed to have been along School Street in Braidwood. Production and years of operation are unknown for this mine.
- ↑ Production before the publication of the Coal Reports in 1882 is unknown. James Braidwood, owner of Braidwood Coal Company, died February 1, 1879. The beginning date of operation is from the presence of the shaft in the 1873 atlas. The ending date of operation is deduced from biographical information, but other operators could have bought the mine and operated it after that date.
