Ashley Quadrangle

Mining in the Ashley Quadrangle

Several mines appear to have operated in the Ashley quadrangle. The Ashley Coal Company (mine index 2045) opened its shaft in 1885. The mine closed the following year due to roof problems. It was reopened in 1889 by the Morris Brothers, but was closed for good the following year. Two small strip pits were also noted, but the seam mined is unclear.
