Mining in the Scottland Quadrangle

The Black Diamond Mine (mine index 2065) was the earliest known mine to operate in the Scottland Quadrangle, opening in 1882. The Black Walnut Mine (mine index 2067) ended operations in 1937, the last known mine working near Scottland. Two seams were mined within the quadrangle boundary, the Danville and Springfield Coals.
