Water came through at a few places where faults in the roof permitted. White top, from 1 to 3 feet thick, made up the roof immediately above the coal over most of the mine. Small rolls occurred occasionally. A layer of impurities was near the bottom of the seam, including 2 inches of pyrite, clay and blue band. The floor was over 14 feet of fire clay, but very little heaving was noted in the mine.
