Mining in the Merom Quadrangle
The only known mining took place just north of Palestine where a pod of coal was protected from erosion by a limestone cap rock. Farmers mined the coal before 1936, and organized coal mining ended in 1942 (mine index 2054), although sand and gravel was probably also removed from the pit area.
