Geology
Geological Problems Reported
The overburden consisted of 1.2 to 2.8 feet of limestone. This limestone cap rock prevented the erosion of an island of coal to remain in the surrounding valley fill of glacial debris. The coal remained while the surrounding valley filled with glacial debris.

Notes
- ↑ A field note by W. A. Newton (8-14-1936) indicated that some sporadic surface mining had taken place beforeSnyder operated here. Newton thought the mining was done by local farmers for personal use.
- ↑ The map was a sketch that showed the general shape of the mined area, but was less accurate than an areal photograph in delineating the mine extent or shape.
