MINING IN THE FARMINGDALE QUADRANGLE
The Springfield Coal was mined in the Farmingdale Quadrangle. The coal ranged from 5 to 6 feet thick. The mines that worked here were produced only a small amount and did not operate long, most likely because the location is not close to a market other than individuals, with more efficient mines near the population centers.
