Mining in the Mazon Quadrangle

The Sunlight Mine (mine index 2339) was an underground mine that operated from 1922 to 1930, mining the Herrin Coal. The Herrin Coal was quite thick in this area, averaging seven feet thick and ranging up to eight feet.
