Eddyville Quadrangle
Mining in the Eddyville Quadrangle
Three different coals were mined in the Eddyville Quadrangle – the Willis, Delwood and Gentry Coals. All of these coals were present in thin, lenticular deposits, and were correlated on the basis of other rocks in the exposures along the hillsides. The coals were all generally less than 4 feet thick, and the mines were not very extensive. Few of the mines are identified, but most operated before 1935.
Fluorspar was mined along the faults in the southeastern corner of the quadrangle. Little is known of these mines.
