Mining in the Kell Quadrangle
Mining took place in the southeastern corner of Kell Quadrangle before 1868 (mine index 7709). This was apparently a surface mine, coal dug from the bed of the creek. All of the mines that operated in this vicinity appear to have been surface mines digging shallow coal for local consumption. The seam is not known, a thin coal less than 30 inches thick.
