Mining in the Sandford Quadrangle
Mining in the Sandford Quadrangle took place in three different seams. The Green Valley Mine (mine index 5722) worked in the Seelyville Coal. In the Indiana portion of the quadrangle, Peabody’s Universal Mine (mine index 1014) surface-mined the Danville Coal, and the Springfield Coal was worked by Bickett No. 2 Mine.
