Stoy Quadrangle
Mining in the Stoy Quadrangle
The mining that took place in the Stoy Quadrangle was before 1936. Three mine locations were noted by field geologists, one of them possibly still active. All of the mine sites were small, along creeks, but the descriptions were a bit vague as to whether they were shallow drifts or surface mines. The descriptions were also unclear as to which seam was utilized. Both the Bristol Hill Coal and the Flannigan Coal were mined in Crawford County, but an entirely different coal may have been mined in the Stoy Quadrangle.
