Mining in the Venedy Quadrangle
The Venedy Mine (mine index 0699) is the only known mining that took place in the Venedy Quadrangle. The mine operated for 48 years, from 1921 until 1969. The Herrin Coal had an average thickness of 6.5 feet, with a maximum thickness of 8 feet. Top coal was left to help support the black shale roof.
