Geological Problems Reported
The roof consisted of 2 inches of draw slate under 10 to 20 feet of hard gray shale. Pyrite was scattered abundantly in elongate lenses throughout the seam. The underclay was up to 2 feet thick, but in some places, sandstone was directly under the coal.
