Geological Problems Reported
The roof consisted of 2 to 4 feet of draw slate below soapstone. The seam contained no marked irregularities or persistent impurities. Blackjack was occasionally seen, as well as pyrite bands up to 1/8inch thick. The coal was exceptionally brittle and readily chipped into small flakes. The coal was dull, with no parallel-to-bedding banding.
