Geological Problems Reported
The immediate roof above the coal was 2 to 12 inches of clod or draw slate. Above the clod, 0 to 4 feet of limestone was present, with shale or silty shale above the limestone. The top portion of the coal was canneloid in places. The bottom portion (up to 12 inches) of the coal seam was a silty bone coal referred to as “black jack” or merely “jack”.
