The source map noted a fault east of the shafts. Fault was a term often used loosely on old mine maps; the feature is more likely a large roll or group of rolls that made the coal uneconomic to mining.

  1. No map was found to show the workings in the Colchester Coal. Since production was not recorded in such a way that production in each seam can easily be determined, the total acres mined in each seam are not precisely known. This mine also extracted the fireclay below the Colchester Coal for its manufacturing plant, but the amount, and therefore the total area of the clay works, are unknown.
