Notes

  1. This shaft was probably the initial hoist shaft, used until the workings were extended much further south and required the construction of a shaft nearer the active workings.
  2. This mine may have also mined the Colchester Coal seam, as well as the clay associated with it. No map hasbeen found for this, and the workings were likely not extensive.
  3. Operation and ownership prior to July 1881 is unknown. The 1882 Coal Report indicated 160 acres were mined. Biography in Black, A History of Streator, Illinois indicates the mine opened about 1880.
