Geological Problems Reported
A fault was noted east of the shaft, with some gas released into the mine from the fault zone. The fault was shown on the source map, and appeared to be the reason for halting eastward expansion. The upper part of the coal contained some pyrite nodules. The blue band was split into two layers of 1 inch each, separated by 4 inches of coal. The lower blue band was more persistent than the upper and contained some pyrite nodules.
