Geological Problems Reported
The pillars were pulled, and subsidence was noted. The immediate roof was 1 to 2inches of clod, with 18 to 20 inches of limestone above that. A layer of pyrite concretions up to 2 inches thick was usually present in the lower bench of coal. Another visit to the mine indicated that the pyrite nuggets were rare and scattered, and were easily separated from the coal.
