Notes

  1. Layne McGeehee, a retired attorney, had local information that a mine was in SE 6-T17N-R1E and notified the ISGS June 3, 1999. Valerie Chambers, P. E., of McClure Engineering Associates, Inc. of East Moline notified the ISGS of the possibility of SW 5-T17N-R1E as the location of the Hynd Mine because of the former land ownership of that area by John Hynd, as shown on old plat maps. Although the plat maps did not show a coal mine at that location, many mines operated in the interval between plat map updates, and were commonly not shown. The location was reasonable geologically, and an uncertain location point symbol on the accompanying map indicates the lack of certitude of the actual mine location.
  2. The mine location was plotted on a 1:24000 USGS topographic map from the mine location description and digitized.
