Mining in the Pocahontas Quadrangle
Only one mine is known to have operated in the Pocahontas Quadrangle, Illinois Pocahontas Coal Company Mine (mine index 0218). This mine opened in 1905, mining the Herrin Coal at a depth of 380 feet. The coal averaged 6.5 feet in thickness. Operation ceased in 1942.
