Mining in the Stewardson East Quadrangle

The earliest known mining in the Stewardson East Quadrangle was in the town of Strasburg, where a shaft was dug and timbered in 1893 (mine index 5359). However, the coal was too thin and the mine closed with no known production. The other known mines operated sometime between 1920 and 1960, and were small mines with little production.
