Geological Problems Reported

The immediate roof was 4 to 6 inches of carbonaceous shale that contained concretions, with 18 to 30 inches of black shale above. The cap rock was 12 to 18 inches of limestone. Pyrite was present as thin bands and some concretions. Clay veins in the coal were common. The underclay was 18 to 24 inches thick and heaved badly when wet.
