Geology
Geological Problems Reported
The black shale roof was 2 to 3 ft thick and contained concretions that sometimes extended down into the coal. The concretions were up to 2 ft in diameter. The coal was clean with occasional pyrite bands (up to 1 inch thick) that were irregular and not extensive. A large number of horsebacks were seen, normally 2 to 4 inches across, that often extended through the entire thickness of the coal. The coal was frozen to the fire clay floor.

Final <ref> This map has several areas that appear to be unmined, but they are probably areas of old workings that the surveyors were not able to access. We consider these to be mined-out.
