Geological Problems Reported
Some abandoned underground workings were encountered, although the coal was near the outcrop and almost all of the overburden was glacial debris. The seam was divided into two benches. The upper bench was about 3 feet thick, and the lower bench was about 4 feet thick. The partings were separated by 2 feet of fire clay. In some places, the upper bench was absent or eroded.
