Geological Problems Reported
This surface mine was between the coal outcrop (southern boundary) and the Captain Mine (northern boundary, mine index 873). The mine is located on the northern flank of the Campbell Hill Anticline. Above the Herrin Coal was up to 5 feet of Brereton Limestone, with 3 to 4 feet of Anna Shale between the limestone and coal. Most of the coal in the NW 32-T6S-R4W was mined by the Red Hawk Mine (mine index 1025). Pioneer’s production was probably reported under that mine.
