Geological Problems Reported
Southward expansion may have been halted by a fault noted on the source map. A few small slips with less than 2 ft displacement were noted, but their effect on mining was insignificant. These were more common in the southern part of the mine. The coal was split into two benches, with a shale parting 10 inches from the bottom of the seam. Pyrite was present in bands that locally thickened to lenses and balls.
