  1. The reported production indicates approximately 140 acres were mined. Part of the discrepancy is accounted for by numerous other mines (both surface and underground) that also took coal from the areas encompassed within the outline of this mine.
  2. The NE quarter of section 35 was said to have been previously surface-mined in the 1920's by “Bugs” Moran, a Chicago racketeer, as mentioned in Grundy County, Illinois, Landmarks. No other source exists for the Moran mine, and it may lie within the outline shown for index 2391.
