Geology
Geological Problems Reported
The largest percentage of impurities consisted of clay lenses. A number of cracks extended from the floor to the roof and were filled with clay. “Whitetop”, a white clay filling cracks and spaces between small coal pieces, was reported as present in this mine, although it was not as common as in some of the other mines in the area. The roof was bad over the areas of white top.

Notes
- ↑ This mine may be located near the NE corner NW, section 27. At least three different locations were given in the ISGS mine notes, and topographic discrepancies on the microfilm map make this mine impossible to locate with any degree of accuracy.
- ↑ The annual Coal Report lists production from 11 different Ratcliffe mines between 1914 and 1929. The Ratcliffe mines produced a total of 123,837 tons, which would have mined out 35 to 50 acres of coal.
- ↑ The microfilm map fails to adequately locate the mine, placing it near a section coordinate that does not have thepublic road also shown in the required configuration.
