- ↑ A shaft was shown in this location (or nearby) on the 1876 atlas. However, the 1882 Coal Report specifically stated that the Big Muddy Coal & Coke Company was new and the mine was new (page 31). No map of the workings have been found for this part of the mine (only a few eastern entries are sketched on the mine map of Black Cat Mine, mine index 2485). The outline shown may include an older mine.
