Geological Problems Reported
The roof consisted of gray shale. Below the gray shale was 11 inches of clod that had a tendency to come down. Pyrite was present in the coal as a 1 inch layer about 6 inches above the floor, and 1.5 inches in a bony band near the middle of the seam. Some concretions were present, but were easily separated from the coal.
