Geological Problems Reported
One fault was noted, with a displacement of 18 inches. The roof was a black fissile shale under a light gray massive shale. These shales ranged up to 6 feet thick, and made a very bad roof. The coal was deposited on an undulating surface. The thickest coal was in the swags. Pyrite bands and lenses existed in the coal, as well as abundant calcite facings. The blue band was present in this mine as a dark gray shale, generally 2 feet above the floor.
