Geology
Geological Problems Reported
The immediate roof was 7 feet of carbonaceous shale with large (8 feet long by 5 feet thick) clay-ironstone concretions. Above the shale was 6 inches of fossiliferous limestone, with light gray sandy shale above the limestone. The coal contained a ½ inch pyrite band that was generally persistent throughout the mine.
