Geological Problems Reported
This surface mine targeted pillars of an abandoned underground mine. The roof had consisted of light gray, soft, poorly bedded shale. Some lenses of this material protruded down into the coal and along the margins of where the coal was split.

Notes
- ↑ Because mining consisted mostly of taking pillars of abandoned underground workings, W. J. Nelson estimated that this was the equivalent of mining a 32-inch seam.
- ↑ Point plotted onto 1:24,000 USGS topographic map and digitized.
