Geological Problems Reported
The mine was abandoned twice (in 1892 and 1903) due to inability to extract the coal profitably. Details are lacking, the Coal Reports of those years merely indicated that the seam was faulty. The proximity of this mine to the Walshville channel may have been the cause of the difficulties operating at this location. Others re-opened the mine, but the mine was always closed or sold in a couple of years. The mine notes indicate small slips were common, especially where the roof limestone contained rolls.
