Geological Problems Reported

The roof was 2.5 feet of black shale below 2 to 8 feet of limestone. White top was abundant above the coal, and ranged up to 10 feet thick. Slips and rolls were common where the white top made the immediate roof, and these areas required heavy timbering. Most of the pyrite was in the lower half of the seam.
