  1. The area is larger than expected from the production (expected 38 acres). Some of the area along the Salt Fork probably had no coal (eroded), and so the outline shown on the mine map includes areas where mining did not occur, as well as areas of reduced extraction where only the pillars remained (3879, Crawford Brothers Mine was partially mined by this surface mine).
