- ↑ According to Mary Norman Lindsay in Coal Mines in Saline County, W. H. Howell, John Davenport, William Alsop and E. O. Roberts organized Clifton Coal Company and opened the mine in 1880. The slope was ½ mile northwest of the Ledford Slope (mine index 4708). Production prior to July 1882 is unknown.
