Geological Problems Reported

Bad roof conditions were encountered in the southwestern part of the mine. The roof was the typical black shale of the area, but it didn't stay up as well as at other mines in the vicinity, breaking down when the coal was shot, and having to be loaded out of the mine. Fewer horsebacks than normal were seen in this portion of the mine, as well as thinner coal.
