Geological Problems Reported

The mine was greatly troubled with methane gas. The coal dipped to the east about 1 foot down for every 10 horizontal feet to the east, and the methane would collect along the west side of the workings.

  1. Some controversy regarding the seam mined took place in the 1950s, with some contending that the Colchester Coal was mined while others thought the Wiley Coal was mined.
  2. The mine was operated by George Garrett.
  3. Production was not reported for the fiscal year 1882-1883, but the mine was listed in the Coal Reports. It is likely that the shaft was under construction.
